Learn more about the flavor of Colombian coffee, the best in the world, and several reasons to talk about it around the world.
Starting the day without a coffee is almost as difficult as not getting goosebumps when we hear the National Anthem. Colombian coffee fills us with pride, and it's impossible not to talk about it when we meet a tourist or travel abroad. Here are the reasons why:
1. Coffee is the most consumed beverage by Colombians. According to “Toma Café”, it is consumed on 47% of occasions.
2. The vast majority of Colombians drink between 2.5 and 3 cups of coffee a day. What doesn’t change is the preference: on average, people like it hot and freshly brewed.
3. Colombian coffee has a positive impact on the performance of our athletes. Drinking between 1 and 3 cups of coffee a day helps reduce fatigue during high-effort activities.
4. 90% of Colombians consider coffee our national drink. In contrast, 90% of the population believes we should be the most knowledgeable about coffee in the world.
5. The countries that consume the most coffee in the world are: the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. The latter is one of the main importers of Colombian coffee.
6. The well-known coffee multinational, Starbucks, offers Colombian coffee at its branch in Russia. This coffee originates from Nariño and has become a favorite among Russians.
7. 50% of us started drinking coffee before the age of 10. Thank the delicious recipes of mothers and grandmothers who wanted to surprise us at breakfast.
8. Because of this same tradition, we continue to prefer the classic coffee bean. Of every 100 kilos of Colombian coffee we consume, 86 are roasted coffee and only 14 are instant coffee.
9. In Colombia, there are more than 1,400 specialty coffee shops, while approximately 10,900 stores offer this beverage alongside their other products.
10. Because of our innate love for coffee, Colombians are open to trying it with liquor, spices, and more—encouraging barista creativity and making us more competitive around the world.
