In Colombia, we offer all kinds of options for our LGBTI+ tourists, but here are some of our best beaches for a totally relaxing vacation.

Barú

Barú Island is famous for its most popular beach: Playa Blanca, a beach very close to Cartagena, where many locals and foreigners go to spend the day.

This stretch of white sand meets the turquoise Caribbean waters surrounding the small island. Speedboats leave every half hour from Cartagena, and the trip takes less than 30 minutes. You can also reach it by road, although it may take a little longer. In Barú, you can enjoy a delicious lunch—seafood is the specialty—sunbathe, swim in crystal-clear water, or simply relax with a beautiful view.

Cabo de la Vela

Aerial view of the desert coastline in La Guajira. What a contrast between desert and Caribbean Sea!

Cabo de la Vela offers the perfect setting for visitors to relax—where the desert meets the sea. This village lies on a stretch of wild coastline by the La Guajira desert and is considered home to some of Colombia’s best beaches. It’s an ideal place to connect with the spiritual through Wayuu cultural rituals or to enjoy extreme and water sports, like kite surfing.

Palomino

Punta Gallinas, the northernmost point of South America. What a unique landscape!

Palomino is a small, laid-back town on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, with a trendy, lively atmosphere. Tropical birds fly through its streets, and it is home to many beaches that stretch all the way to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The sea currents here are known for their strength, so most visitors rent inner tubes and float down the river before enjoying a hearty dinner of fresh fish.

Cartagena de Indias

Bocagrande, Cartagena, with tall buildings along the beach. That’s right! This is Cartagena’s modern area.

Cartagena de Indias is a romantic city, with its imposing colonial walls and maze of narrow streets. Visitors spend their mornings soaking up history and marveling at tropical flowers hanging from balconies, then head to one of the city’s beaches for the afternoon. They enjoy fresh ceviche and end the day as the sun melts into the ocean in a blaze of orange.

Chocó

Humpback whale jumping off Colombia’s Pacific coast. What an amazing sight!

Chocó is a magical corner of Colombia, and its beaches are home to some of the world’s most awe-inspiring creatures. Visitors can watch humpback whales caring for their calves in the waves or spot crabs scurrying and sea turtles laying eggs on the shore. These black-sand beaches are perfect for a wide range of sports—or simply for a stroll to admire nature in its most spectacular form. You can't leave Chocó without trying the famous cuisine of the Pacific region.

There’s something for everyone on these beautiful Colombian beaches—from water sports and wildlife to parties, glamour, and total relaxation. If you're looking for LGBTI+ tourism opportunities, come to Colombia and experience all our vibrant charm.
