The 50 Golf courses in our country are considered some of the best in Latin America.
Colombia is the third country in South America in number and quality of courses to practice the sport. Besides, it is one of the few countries where climate allows you to enjoy golf all year long.
Here you can find golf courses at sea level and at 3.000 meter above. The average distance of the courses varies from 6.000 to 7.700 yards.
The natural riches of Colombia are reflected on its golf courses that marvel tourists from all over the world who enjoy the unique landscapes of the region in every stroke.
The beauty and challenges of the best golf courses in Colombia
The country presents players with golf courses that offer different challenges and climatic conditions. For example, Club de Golf La Cima, has a course with undulated curves and one of the highest holes in the world at 3,000 meters above sea level.
In Lagos de Caujaral, Barranquilla, is the best course in the country according to Reader’s Golf Digest. It spreads over 20 hectares of impressive topography, in which both its difficulty and views to the Caribbean Sea are remarkable.
The course at Club el Rincón de Cajicá —located 15 miles north of Bogotá— was designed by English Architect Robert Trent Jones, founder of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA).
The golf course at Los Fundadores del Country Club de Bogotá is considered unique at a national level because it has Bent Grass fairways, roughs and greens, planted in the best possible herb for golf practice.
El Peñón Condominium, in Girardot, three hours from Bogotá, has a 7,020 yard gold course with trees, lakes and distributed as to bring out the best sights the topography has to offer.
Ruitoque Golf Country Club, a few minutes from Bucaramanga, has a 6,601 yard course, aggressive roughs and holes of great difficulty. It is well complemented by an executive 6-hole course.
Colombia celebrates golf
Between Championships and Opens to be disputed in all regions of the country, Colombia will host 58 golf tournaments in 2013, including the Colombia Championship to be disputed in the Founders Course of the Country club of Bogotá between the 28th of February and March the 3rd. It will give 650 thousand dollars in prizes.
Other events that will take place this year are the Copa Los Andes, the South American Amateur championship, the Arturo Calle Cup and two PGA Tour Latin America Championships: the Colombian Open and the Colombian Coffee Classic.
