Golden Gate of Colombia
La Arenosa or Curramba, la Bella are two of the names by which this city is known, a cultural and industrial port of Colombia, a territory where dance, art, and literature flourish. On April 7, 1813, Barranquilla was declared a town and officially born as a city open to the world and cultural diversity. There, among laughter and cumbias, some of the most profitable and prosperous industries of our country have been established; along with various initiatives to promote the folklore and culture of the Colombian Greater Caribbean. Evidence of this is the Barranquilla Carnival, a heritage of humanity, and being considered the golden gate to the intangible wealth of our country and the entire world.
A restless, daring, and loving city, Barranquilla is one of those places that, once visited, is never abandoned. As García Márquez once said, "I would have been a writer, but if it weren't for Barranquilla, I would be a very different writer."

Barranquilla Carnival, for everyone to experience!
Barranquilla is home to one of the largest carnivals in the world: the Barranquilla Carnival. This festival, which highlights the best of our cultural roots, celebrates the diversity and folklore of the Caribbean region; all to the rhythm of cumbias, porros, fandangos, and other native rhythms of the Colombian Greater Caribbean. In this way, joy takes over the streets with more than 3 million people dancing and singing while various carnival groups and allegorical characters such as the Marimonda, the Monocuco, the Negritas Puloy, the Harlequin Devil, and the Cienaga Caiman do their thing.
